A verse from the “Rig Veda” says “one should take from rivers, mines, mountains and seas what is useful and according to one’s need without injuring them for if one fails to do so the earth begins to tremble”. In ancient India, the protection of environment was the duty of each and every individual. The religious which prevail in India Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Sikhism have environmental overtones and ecological code of conduct, prescribing reverence towards nature. To create environmental awareness among people, Ganga Seva Nidhi(GSN) organizes anti-pollution camps, rallies, poster exhibition, cleaning up of Ghats, debates-discussions and workshop on environment, lecture series by noted environmentalists, and distributes medicinal plants (Syama Tulsi) time to time. GSN is committed to revive ancient Indian Environmental ethics and ideals. GSN clean the Ghat (Dashashwamedh Ghat) and besides cleaning up of the Ghats, volunteers of Ganga Seva Nidhi clean the water wastes, such as flowers, polythene, plastic, carcass of live stock etc. For this couple of boat are being used to clean the river with nets and sticks.
